Holly J. Batey Graduate Assistant
Holly J. Batey, currently a Graduate Assistant with the Center for Emergency Management and Homeland Security Policy Research, is a resident of Akron, Ohio. Recently graduating with a Bachelor of Art Degree in Political Science with a minor in Pre-Law from The University of Akron, she is continuing her education in the Department of Public Administration and Urban Studies to receive a Master of Public Administration Degree.
Having a strong interest in politics, she has had experience within the political realm interning for former Congressman Tom C. Sawyer, both in his Washington D.C. and District offices. She has also interned for Senator Noël A. Kinsella, a member of The Senate of Canada, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Together she had researched topical matter such as stem-cell research, welfare, and gun control just to name a few.
In the spring of 2002, Batey was acknowledged and awarded with the Outstanding Senior Award for her commitment to excellence and the community during her undergraduate career. She was awarded Associated Student Government’s Senator of the Year Award during her term as the Chairperson of Communications and Correspondence in 2002, where she was the first student senator to initiate an electronic standard of polling to help student’s voice their opinion about current issues at The University. Also as student senator, she participated in rallies for higher education in Columbus, Ohio.
After receiving her Masters Degree, Batey has aspirations of attending law school. She is currently or has worked with the following organizations:
