PROFILE FOR CLAUDIA J. COLEMAN

 

 

Claudia J. Coleman, currently a Research Associate with the Center for Emergency Management and Homeland Security Policy Research, is a native of Akron, Ohio.  She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, Master of Arts Degree in Urban Studies and is a Doctoral candidate in the Department of Public Administration and Urban Studies at The University of Akron. 

 

After receiving her Bachelor Degree in Education, she taught in Springfield, Ohio Schools for 3 years.  Coleman left the public school system and joined the private sector, where she consulted businesses such as IBM, Frito Lay, and Southern Dallas Development Corporation, on a variety of projects.  She later returned to the public sector as Executive Director of a nonprofit organization where she spent five years.  Coleman has more than 20 years experience in developing and managing projects and brings a balanced blend of best practices from both the private and public sector.  

 

Teaching Master’s level courses in the Department of Public Administration and Urban Studies at The University of Akron further enhances Coleman’s experience.  Additionally, she has been a Guest lecturer for the following classes: Introduction to Public Policy, Public Bureaucracy, Government Relations, and Nonprofit Management.

 

Coleman presented at the Teaching Public Administration Conference in Knoxville, TN in 2002 and Convened Roundtable discussions at the Urban Studies Conferences in 2000 & 2001. 

 

Her publications include Ohio Governor’s Terrorism Update 2002 - State Update on Terrorism.  Coleman was also co-writer on the Smallpox Vaccine – Phase I – Recap Report, and the Mohican Park Partnership Project. 

 

Coleman lead the effort to establish The University of Akron’s first doctoral student association, Doctoral Association of Arts and Sciences and Urban Affairs, and was its first President.  She is currently a member or has been a member in the following organizations:
